Apr 10-11th Double Bayou Sail

leave a comment »

Come to this weekend’s Double Bayou Sail!

This is a two day event in which we will be sailing across Galveston Bay to Double Bayou and spending the night there on the boats.

We will be meeting at the church at 7:45 AM.

Since this is a two-day event, you need to bring a sack lunch (for Saturday’s lunch), sleeping bag, pillow, toiletries, and anything else you will need for sailing both days (i.e. hat, sunscreen, foul weather gear, etc.)

Double Bayou is located on the east side of Trinity Bay and should take us about 5 to 7 hours to reach. To get to our final destination, we will motor up the bayou and anchor the boats along the shore.

The area surrounding the bayou is a marshy grassland that, at this time of year, is noteworthy for its unique, mixed fragrance of both blooming honeysuckles and fresh cow patties.

Mar 27th Trash Bash

leave a comment »

Ship 502 will participate in the Texas waterways Trash Bash event this Saturday. We will be picking up trash in the parks and waterways of Seabrook, which will provide a great opportunity for members needing more work hours.

If you want to come, ask me for a permission slip at the meeting, or find one here:

Meet at the church at 7:30 AM.

No need to bring a sack lunch! A free lunch will be provided.

It is estimated that we will have about 3 hours worth of work. The event is supposed to end by 1:30 PM.

Mar 13-14th Merit Badge Camping Event

leave a comment »

This will be a small-boat sail/overnight camping trip on Lake Somerville. Hopefully, we will have sunfish and lasers to teach the basics of small boat sailing. Bring your friends so they can learn! (Remember, the goal of this event is to practice teaching small boat sailing to kids our age, so we can teach boy scouts later on as a fundraising event).

Meet at 9:00 AM at the church.

Bring a sack lunch, $15 for the rest of the weekend’s food, anything you’ll need to small-boat sail, and anything you’ll need to stay in a tent overnight (except for the tent itself, that will be provided).

*ATTENTION*- We still need an adult that is willing to trailer the six-pack of sunfish to Lake Somerville and we need an adult that can stay on Saturday.

RSVP if you haven’t already at a meeting and you want to go

Good times…

On Saturday, we will be finishing up any other work that needs to be done and cleaning the boats. It should be a great opportunity for anybody who needs more work hours.

We’ll meet at 7:30 and all you need to bring is a sack lunch. Tell us at tomorrow’s meeting if you would like to come!
